The Quarantined Artist Postcard Exchange is an on-going, artist-driven mail art project with the overall goal to build community between artists on a personal level and to provide an opportunity for artistic/creative connection during this time of global pandemic as opportunities for connection and for viewing and interacting with art are decreased.

How to follow the project:

Follow the hashtag #quarantinedartistexchange on Instagram to see what artists are creating and exchanging with each other. This may not represent all artwork created for this project, as posting photos and use of the hashtag is at each artist's discretion.

Guidelines for participating artists:

  • Open to U.S.-based artists only at this time due to postage costs and to support the USPS.
  • Artists will be paired with another artist, and each will create a postcard to mail to the other.
  • Artists will receive a different partner for each subsequent exchange.
  • This project is ON-GOING indefinitely and artists may choose to participate once per month or twice per month.
  • Artists who choose to participate twice per month will receive 2 separate emails with partner info, and artists may choose to create/send them at the same time or to stagger the postcards throughout the month.
  • Partner assignments for the upcoming month will be sent out on the 1st via email (please check junk mail). Suggested mailing date will be the 15th, with a deadline to mail the postcard on the last day of the month.
  • Artists may drop out permanently or temporarily at any time before pairings have been sent if life gets busy or for any other reason.
  • If something comes up after assignments have been made and artists need to either mail their postcard late or back out, they just need to communicate with their partner to let them know. Reassignments will be made as needed in worst case scenarios, but this option should be a last resort. Life happens and healthy boundaries are important, especially during a challenging time so there is no judgment or pressure, but artists who go completely M.I.A. will have future partner assignments placed on hold.
  • If an artist needs to change the frequency of their participation or update their contact info, that information should be provided via email at least a few days before the end of the month.
  • There are no criteria for media or interpretation of what constitutes an artists postcard as long as what is produced is the artist's own work and is mailable through the USPS.
  • Art exists on many spectrums. Artists may be paired with someone they know, a long-lost friend, someone they have heard of but never met, or a total stranger. Partners may be a professional artist at any experience level or a “hobbyist,” formally trained or self-taught, and their style and predominant discipline may be similar or not. An open perspective is encouraged.
  • Mailing addresses will never be shared except between partners. Artists should not post photos that show their partner’s mailing address.
  • This project is open to artists from all backgrounds and is to be considered a safe space. Harassment of any sort will not be tolerated.
  • Sharing on Instagram is strongly encouraged, though up to each artist's discretion. Please use the hashtag #quarantinedartistexchange so people can easily find and follow the postcards being created for this project. When posting photos of other people's work, artists should tag their partner. The hashtag also creates an online gallery of the artwork produced that everyone can enjoy.
  • Artists may invite other artists to join and can pass on this info as desired or direct people to contact me (Lisa Rawlinson) via Instagram or email in order to be added to the list for the next exchange.

Sign-up to participate:

Email me to be included in future rounds of the exchange. I will need the following information:

  • Mailing address
  • Instagram account name (if any)
  • Whether you would like to participate once or twice per month

Support the Arts

Art patronage embraces the idea that creativity contributes to the world and to individual lives, and that there is a symbiotic relationship and an exchange that occurs between the artist and the audience of their work. And while purchasing art is a fantastic way to do this, it's not always possible for everyone. The potential to support the arts is much broader, and Patreon makes it incredibly easy.

Introducing 3 monthly tiers in a range of support levels from Supporter of the Arts to Art Enthusiast to Art Collector. Get access to behind-the-scenes videos with insights and peeks at whatever is cooking in the creative cauldron or opt to get your own hand-created original art postcard.

Special Launch Offer

The first 10 people to sign up for the Art Collector patronage tier will receive a Collector's Surprise Pack filled with goodies from the studio! Learn more and sign up today.
