Do Good, Win a Print
November 20, 2016
This week in the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday seeped in tradition and harkening back to the shared harvest feast at Plymouth between the colonists and the Wampanoag, reinforced after the close of the American Civil War when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a day of thanksgiving, and finally declared a national holiday in 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the midst of the Great Depression. Here we are in 2016, a time when we are feeling the division within our nation, when many still struggle economically despite the significant gains and economic stabilization made during the Obama administration, and when the rights of indigenous people and so many others are being overtly violated. A huge number of us have looked on in outrage and frustration at the events transpiring at Standing Rock. In a tornado of events that have left a large percentage of Americans feeling helpless or demoralized, it's hard to know where to begin to focus your efforts. But it's not futile. You just have to do one small thing. You just have to act.
In honor of that tradition of Thanksgiving and the virtue of people of different backgrounds coming together, I will be giving away a reproduction print of my painting "Infinity Vortex" to encourage donations to the Sacred Stone Camp at Standing Rock for supplies to be used at the camp or the Standing Rock Medic + Healer Council. To be entered to win, simply donate any amount or purchase and send supplies and email me with proof of your contribution (proof entails a copy of a confirmation email or screen capture showing your confirmed donation).
